Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death and disease for Iowans and will kill more than 4,000 people this year. To help Iowans quit smoking, the Iowa Department of Public Health is expanding its free nicotine replacement program. Iowans who enroll in Quitline Iowa may be eligible for eight weeks of nicotine replacement therapy.
The longer an individual has access to nicotine replacement, the more likely they are to stay tobacco free. It’s hoped that by expanding access to nicotine replacement patches, lozenges and gum, Iowans can succeed in quitting for good. To take advantage of the program, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW or visit www.quitnow.net/iowa.
