SF 2138 – Disabled veterans homestead credit, military property tax exemptions
COMMITTEE ACTION:
SF 2138 (SSB 3122) relates to military property tax exemptions. It would expand eligibility for the existing 100 percent property tax exemption for disabled veterans so that all veteran homeowners with a 100 percent service- connected disability rating will be eligible for the property tax exemption.
It would increase the existing property tax exemption for military veterans from $1,852 of assessed value to 10 percent of the assessed value on homes valued up to $150,000. The bill also expands the eligibility for the exemption to members of the National Guard who served at least 20 years and/or served a minimum of 90 days on federal active duty and were honorably discharged. The bill applies to property taxes due and payable in fiscal years beginning on or after July 1, 2014. SF 2138, as amended, has been referred to the Senate Ways & Means Committee. [2/6: short form]
