HF 467 – Reducing penalty for failure to report harvest of deer or wild turkey
HF 544 – Establishing plasma gasification as a preferred waste management practice
HF 578 – Observations of Department of Natural Resources investigations
COMMITTEE ACTION:
HF 467 would reduce the penalty for failure to report to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) a wild turkey or deer harvest from a simple misdemeanor with a $100 fine to a $20 administrative fine. The harvest reporting system helps the DNR track the success rate of wild turkey and deer hunters and determine population numbers of those species. [3/31: short form (Zumbach absent)]
HF 544 would add waste conversion technologies as a preferred method of solid waste management. Waste conversion technologies take solid waste and convert them into usable materials through anaerobic digestion, plasma gasification, pyrolysis and other technologies. The conversion methods do not incinerate the waste but gives it a second life, which diverts waste from landfill disposal operations. [3/31: short form (Zumbach absent)]
HF 578 states that the director of the DNR, or the director’s designee, cannot stop the owner or person in charge of an animal feeding operation from observing an investigation by the DNR or taking independent samples or photographs during the investigation. [3/31: short form (Zumbach absent)]
