Grants are available for projects that enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops grown in Iowa.
Iowa will receive more than $244,000 in federal funding this year for food safety, research and marketing efforts that encourage Iowans to buy products produced locally. Grants of up to $24,000 will be awarded to projects that last up to 30 months.
Iowa agencies, universities, institutions, and producer, industry and community based organizations can apply for funding to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops. Eligible specialty crops include fruits and vegetables, tree nuts, dried fruits, and horticulture and nursery crops.
Proposals must be received by May 2. For more information on the program, go to www.IowaAgriculture.gov/Horticulture_and_FarmersMarkets/specialtyCropGrant.asp.
