Through April 28, applications are being accepted for the historic preservation and country school grants at http://iowahistory.slideroom.com.
The Historic Resource Development Program provides grants to preserve, conserve, interpret and educate the public about historic resources related to preservation of the built environment, museum collections and documentary materials such as diaries, letters, photographs and newspapers. The program began in 1990 and has awarded more than $16 million to 1,200 projects across the state.
Country School grants help preserve and maintain Iowa’s one-room and two-room country schools. The program was created in 1999 and has awarded nearly $225,000 to more than 50 projects.
Funding comes from the Resource Enhancement and Protection Act (REAP) approved by the Legislature in 1989. Local government units, nonprofit corporations, individuals, businesses and American Indian tribes are eligible to submit applications.
