A program through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources supports college students working to help businesses with pollution prevention strategies.
Since 2001, the Pollution Prevention Internship Program has helped more than 155 Iowa companies, hospitals, universities and government agencies save more than $69.1 million. Environmental benefits in the past 12 years include the reduction of:
• More than 1.2 billion gallons of water
• 204,502 tons of solid waste
• 1.5 million gallons of hazardous waste
• 327.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity
• 7.7 million therms of energy
