Now is the time to register for the 2016 Iowa Arts Summit. The bi-annual conference, hosted by the Iowa Arts Council, helps artists, cultural organizations and communities enhance quality of life through professional development, networking, speakers and a chance to experience the work of Iowa artists.
The 2016 Iowa Arts Summit will be August 5 in Des Moines. Check out this year’s schedule and register at www.iowaculture.gov. For more information, contact Veronica O’Hern at veronica.ohern@iowa.gov.
This Iowa State Fair will also be promoting the arts with a new project. Through July 1, Iowa artists can submit proposals to paint a mural highlighting conservation and water quality in Iowa.
The 6-panel, 8-foot by 24-foot wall will be part of an “Ag Park” in the fairground’s Agricultural Building. At least a portion of the mural must be painted during the Fair, which runs from August 11 through 21.
The mural will reflect an appreciation for Iowa agriculture and the importance of conservation and water quality. Key elements should portray the diversity of Iowa agriculture, including beef, pork, dairy, egg, turkey, poultry, corn, soybeans and bio-fuels. The mural could also incorporate buffers along streams, wildlife, farm wetlands, ponds, terraces, grassed waterways, livestock building structures with waste containment and windbreaks along buildings.
More information and an application can be found at www.IowaAgriculture.gov under “Hot Topics.”
